The Math Forum is a website maintained by Drexel University to help students and teachers with all things math. It offers students math review, problems, puzzles, and a search bar for help from "Dr. Math." Teachers (from primary to university education) are offered professional development workshops, file sharing with other teachers, problems for the classroom, and tools for technology. Math discussion boards are available. It also caters to parents of math students and researchers of math.
Using The Math Forum is very easy. The tabs on the top of the page are well organized. However, I will caution that there are so many links on The Math Forum, that it takes time to get familiar with where everything is located.
The Math Forum can be applied to the classroom by having a direct influence on teachers. It offers teachers the opportunity to share materials and lessons. The Math Forum also has sample projects, problems, and puzzles, which can be assigned to students for enrichment.
I highly recommend The Math Forum to all students and teachers in the math field. Students and teachers will use The Math Forum for the rest of their math careers. The help, resources, and enrichment that it offers are extremely valuable.
Hi Andrew,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your ideas! As a math teacher I know how difficult it is to find really good resources to use in the classroom and while writing lesson plans. I am therefore very grateful that I have another one to add to my list. I just started to navigate through the site, which can be a bit confusing at times, but I have found it very helpful so far! There are an ample number of projects, puzzles, problems, and enrichment activities that can be integrated into the math classroom, which is very helpful to a new teacher...such as myself!
If you have any other websites or digital tools that you use in the math classroom I would love to see or hear about them!!
Thanks again for sharing your ideas,
Kaitlyn King
Yes Kaitlyn, it is great. Sometimes you can find some really helpful justifications on there, and sometimes a puzzle can be useful to complement a lesson.
